6.06.10 - Bayntun's featured in Guardian article by Jan Morris
Jan Morris has included a lovely description of George Bayntun in her recent Guardian article about the new Southgate development in Bath.

"Just outside the complex stand the almost fictionally traditional premises of Bayntun-Riviere, one of the few truly great binderies of the world, who always bind my books for me. I looked in there as usual before I left and was not surprised to find it prospering as ever in its marvellously timeless ambience of craftsmanship and dedication, where nothing is dull or bogus."

While sorting through a storeroom in our basement we uncovered two wooden crates that had remained untouched since we moved to Manvers Street in 1939. One contained 113 woodblocks, engraved with John Leech's illustrations for the first (and subsequent) editions of two Surtees novels, "Ask Mamma" and "Plain or Ringlets".
