24.05.12 - The London International Antiquarian Book Fair
We will be exhibiting at the London International Antiquarian Book Fair from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th May 2012. This year the fair moves to the larger National Hall at Olympia. Advance tickets will be free of charge if you register online (see website below).

8.05.12 - A seminar on 'Collecting Bindings'
Edward Bayntun-Coward will be giving a talk on 'Collecting Bindings' on Tuesday 8th May 2012 at Senate House Library. The event will start at 6pm and all are welcome; for more information please follow the link below.

10.03.11 - The Book Show
We were recently visited by Sky Arts, who were filming The Book Show at the Bath Literature Festival. Bayntun's appeared as the 'featured bookshop' on Thursday 10th March, with Edward discussing his love of Gulliver's Travels.

28.02.11 - Launch of Bath History XII
The launch of Bath History XII took place in the bookshop on Monday 28th February. Edited by local historian Professor Graham Davis, it features essays by Peter Davenport, Trevor Fawcett, Cathryn Spence, Amy Frost and Barbara White. Copies are available for £12.99. 9.02.11 - Putting Bath On The Map
The Building of Bath Collection’s major exhibition for 2011 featured a collection of Bath maps, dating from c.1600 to today. The exhibition ran from 19th February until 28th November 2011. For more information please contact the Building of Bath Collection on 01225 333895.

6.06.10 - Bayntun's featured in Guardian article by Jan Morris
Jan Morris has included a lovely description of George Bayntun in her recent Guardian article about the new Southgate development in Bath.

4.06.10 - Book fair lecture

4.05.10 - New binder
We are delighted to welcome Spike Llewellyn to the Bayntun-Riviere bindery. He has in BA in Bookbinding from Roehampton and spent seven years at Temple Bookbinders in Oxford.

10.03.10 - Publication of 'English Country Bookshops'
George Bayntun is featured in the recently published 'English Country Bookshops' by David Chambers. Published by the Private Libraries Association (in conjunction with the Antiquarian Booksellers Association), the book presents photographs of ten bookshops, with accompanying notes. 9.02.10 - Photo shoot for Anusha boutique
In early February the shop and bindery were the location for Bath-based fashion boutique Anusha’s latest photo shoot. Anusha sells beautiful clothes, accessories, jewellery and gifts and has featured in The Times, The Daily Telegraph, Marie Claire, Glamour and Cosmopolitan.

9.12.09 - Bath Literature Festival launch party
We recently hosted the launch of the 2010 Bath Literature Festival. PenFriends, sponsors and patrons of the festival were given a preview of the programme, followed by drinks and a tour of the bindery.

2.12.09 - Treasures in the basement
While sorting through a storeroom in our basement we uncovered two wooden crates that had remained untouched since we moved to Manvers Street in 1939. One contained 113 woodblocks, engraved with John Leech's illustrations for the first (and subsequent) editions of two Surtees novels, "Ask Mamma" and "Plain or Ringlets". The other was weighed down with 62 engraved copper printing plates dating from about 1700 to 1870. Some of these will shortly appear online, but do enquire if you would like to know more.

4.11.09 - SouthGate redevelopment
We have been watching with interest the progress of the new SouthGate development. Part of the new shopping centre, which is just across the road from us, opened on the 4th of November and the rest is due to open by Autumn 2010. There is an 860 space car park within the new development which means if you are visiting the shop, you can now park easily and within a very short walking distance.

We hosted an exhibiton of winning bindings from the Society of Bookbinders International Competition 2009 from Saturday 29th August until Saturday 3rd October 2009.
20.08.09 - Society of Bookbinders conference
Edward Bayntun-Coward gave the opening address at the Society of Bookbinder's biennial conference at the University of Warwick on Thursday 20th August 2009.

26.06.09 - Lance Gibson retires after 49 years
Our bindery foreman, Lance Gibson, retired on Friday 26th June 2009 having worked at George Bayntun since 1960. He has now gone off to Switzerland to climb some mountains and will return to watch England beat Australia at cricket.
