47 stereoscopic slides featuring picture of Fontainebleau. [105 x 45 mm]. Each is hand numbered and in its original tissue wrapper. Housed in four brown card boxes with blue labels. (Some tears to the wrappers, number 4 of series 3 is missing its wrappers and number 42 of series 4 is missing).

Stereoscopic slides feature two images, one for the right eye and one for the left, when viewed through a stereoscope the two images merge and can be seen as a single three dimensional image. These viewers experienced a wave of popularity from around 1850 to the 1950s. The slides show scenes of lavish decor and the sprawling grounds Fontainebleau - one of the largest royal chateaux in France which can claim sovereign residence for eight centuries. A lovely set.
