A ROYAL PROCLAMATION CONCERNING TAXATION IN THE FIRST YEAR OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION
Proclamation Du Roi: Qui autorise les Municipalites a recevoir les Bijoux & Vaisselles d'or & d'argent, pour les transmettre aux Directeurs des Monnoies. Du 15 Novembre 1789.
Folio broadside. [530 x 420 mm]. Printed on single side, the Royal Arms of Louis XVI printed at the head, edges uncut. (A few old but neat repairs to the rear, edges frayed with small pin holes to corners, light soiling, text intact).

A proclamation issued by King Louis XVI regarding municipalities being able to recieve and transport to mints, the gold, silver, jewelry and tableware from citizens as part of their 'patriotic contribution' (one quarter of their income), or to contribute to the increase of the currency. It lays out the logistics behind the edict and how the contribution shall be calculated and verified by the municipal officers and master goldsmiths.
