Black and white illustrated frontispiece with tissue guard, black and white illustrations throughout.

First Edition. 8vo. [228 x 152 x 31 mm]. Bound in half stained calf with light brown cloth sides, the spine divided into six panels by raised bands, single gilt fillets, red leather label to the second panel, lettered in gilt, with plain endleaves. (Spine and top edge a little sunned).

‍With the neat ink ownership inscription of Ian Macgregor (Dental surgeon based in Newcastle) to the front flyleaf. An Ink inscription and blind stamp to the half title. Occasional light foxing. With pencil annotations to the margins, and markings in ink pp.237-252. A very good copy.

The Lectures were originally delivered by Tomes at The Middlesex Hospital School of Medicine in 1845 and published in the "Medical Gazette" between 1845-1847. Tomes' Lectures were then collected, revised and amended into this edition. 'The illustrations are double the number of those published in the "Medical Gazette", and are re-engraved' (Preface, p.v).‍
