A Dream of John Ball and A King's Lesson. MORRIS (William).
A Dream of John Ball and A King's Lesson. (Reprinted from the 'Commonweal.')
With a black and white illustration by Edward Burne-Jones.
First Edition. 8vo. [170 x 138 x 17 mm]. viii, 143 pp. Bound in publisher's red cloth, lettered in gilt on the cover and spine, plain end-leaves, top edge gilt. (Spine and cover a little sunned and faded, spine and corners a little bumped, edges lightly foxed).
London: Reeves & Turner, 196 Strand, 1888
Lightly foxed, most noticeably on the endleaves, with the occasional small hole and ink mark. Otherwise, internally very clean. With neat pencil ownership inscriptions to the front paste down, and a blind bookseller stamp for A. Holden on the front fly leaf. Small advertisement cutting loosely inserted.
A Dream of John Ball first appeared in serial form in The Commonweal, a Socialist League Newspaper 'of which Morris was the chief contributor, as well as financier and editor' (ODNB.). A very good copy of what is arguably one of 'the most highly regarded of William Morris's prose writings' (ODNB).
