Engraved frontispiece, engraved title-page and 67 engraved illustrations on 34 leaves.

8vo. [231 x 145 x 35 mm]. xvi, 256pp. Bound in near contemporary half calf, marbled paper sides, smooth spine divided into five panels by gilt pallets, lettered in the second, the others with a centre tool, plain endleaves, marbled edges. (A little rubbed).
London: printed by Darton & Harvey, for F. & C. Rivington, B. & B. White, T. Longman, B. Law & Son, G.G. and J. Robinson, T. Cadell, S. Bladon, R. Baldwin, J. Sewell, J. Johnson, H.L. Gardner, J. Bew, W. Goldsmith, J. Murray, W. Lowndes, J. Scatcherd & Co, G. & T. Wilkie, & E. Newbery, 1793.

Some light foxing and soiling, and offsetting from the plates (two with short closed tears). A good copy in a handsome binding. The illustrations are copies of the 1793 Stockdale edition, re-engraved in oval form. They include 12 after designs by William Blake. The life of the author is taken from Johnson's Lives of the English Poets.
