Hexametrical Experiments or a Version of Four of Virgils Pastorals Including the Reputed Prophecy Respecting the Messiah Done in a Structure of Verse Similar to that of the Original Latin. With Hints to Explain the Method of Reading and Slight Essay on the Laws of the Metre.
First Edition. Large Paper Copy. 4to. [314 x 230 x 14 mm]. xi, [i], 92 pp. Bound in the original diaper grain green cloth, spine lettered on a white paper label, plain endleaves, uncut and unopened edges. (Front joint a little weak, the label slightly perished).

Printed in an edition of 250 copies, of which 12 are said to be on large paper. This is a large paper copy, with the sheets unopened and in fine condition, with the Corrigenda slip. It is a presentation copy, inscribed on the half title: "With the authors best respect, to Henry Hallam Esq &c &c in the hope, that should his fine and classical taste incline him to be of opinion that the English Hexameter may ultimately become not unworthy of the language, he will extend the encouragement of his approbation and patronage to this imperfect attempt".
Henry Hallam (1777-1859), the historian and author, was the father of Arthur Henry Hallam (1811-1833), Tennyson's "A.H.H."
