[4]ff, 249, [3] pp. Bound in publisher's original red pictorial cloth, boards lettered and illustrated in black and white, spine faintly lettered, plain endleaves. (Spine faded and white lettering completely flaked off as is common with the first issue bindings, front cover retains bright decorations and lettering, slight bumping to spine).

Internally very clean, free from any inscriptions. Overall in very good condition. First issue bindings had a tendency to lose the white decorations on the bindings due to flaking, this was changed for later issues so that the bindings could better retain the white lettering and decorations.

Originally conceived as bedtime stories for his daughter "Effie" (Josephine), Kipling's collection of imaginative fables have become one of his most enduring works and is regarded as a true classic of children's literature.
