First Edition. 8vo. [199 x 120 x 27 mm]. [8]ff, 266pp. Bound in contemporary speckled calf, the covers tooled in blind with a fillet border and double panel with an ornament at the outer corners. The spine divided into six panels with raised bands flanked by blind fillets, the edges of the boards tooled with a gilt roll, plain endleaves, red sprinkled edges. (Joints cracked but firm, rubbed, corners worn).

London: Printed in the Year, 1702

Lightly browned throughout and with a few minor spots. Closed tear at foot of leaf E1. A good copy. With the bookplate of the Earl of Onslow and bookseller's label of Thomas Beet of 15 Conduit Street, London.

The first edition of the first part, followed by a second part in 1703. The letters are partly original and only a portion are by Brown.
