First Thomson edition. 8vo. [186 x 130 x 47 mm]. xviii, 429 pp. Original crimson cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt to the upper board and spine, yellow peacock endpapers, gilt edges. (Minor bumping to spine and extremities with some light rubbing, binding firm and square).

Bookseller label belonging to Mawson, Swan & Morgan of Newcastle located on the front paste down. Endpapers slightly soiled with some light browning to the preliminary pages including frontispiece and title page, otherwise the text block is very clean. A very good copy indeed.

The first fully illustrated edition of the novel in its original brightly decorated cloth.
