Edited, with an Introduction, Notes, Glossary, and Copious Index, by Homer Wilbur, A.M., Pastor of the First Church in Jaalam, and (Prospective) Member of Many Literary, Learned and Scientific Societies, (for which see page v.)

Fourth Edition. 8vo. [186 x 116 x 18 mm]. 12, xxxii, 163, 11, [1] pp. Bound in the original brown cloth, the covers blocked in blind, the spine lettered in gilt, light yellow endleaves, plain endleaves. (Headcaps slightly worn).
Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1858.

With the preliminary "Notices of an Independent Press" and advertisements for "New Books and New Editions published by Ticknor and Fields" inserted between the rear endleaves. A few light spots but a very good copy. With pencil ownership inscription "John Bright, Rochdale". The Liberal politician, reformer and Quaker John Bright (1811-1889) was the father of Helen Priestman Bright, who married William Stephens Clark in 1866, bringing this volume into the Clark family library.

First published in 1848. A caustic satire of the Mexican-American War and the issue of the expansion of slavery.
