First Thomson edition. 8vo. [186 x 131 x 34 mm]. xvi, 444 pp. Original crimson cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt to upper board and spine, yellow peacock endpapers, gilt edges. (Spine and extremities lightly bumped with a touch of rubbing, binding firm and square).

Bookseller label belonging to Mawson, Swan & Morgan of Newcastle located on front paste down. Light browning to endpapers and title page, corners to page 31-36 slightly creased, otherwise the text block is very clean. A very good copy indeed.

The first fully illustrated edition of the novel, in its original brightly decorated cloth.
