£500.00

WITH A SIGNED LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR.

First edition. 8vo. [195 x 130 x 25 mm]. xiii, [1]f, 215 pp, plus 38 pp of advertisements. Bound in publisher's red cloth, the spine lettered in gilt, plain endpapers, top edge gilt, the others uncut. (Extremities lightly bumped, spine a bit rubbed and a few inoffensive marks to the boards).

London, Methuen & Co., 1903

Internally clean, a very good copy indeed.

With a typed letter signed by the author taped to page 56. Dated 30th of November 1910, Kipling thanks the recipient for pointing out an error found in the 'Explorers' poem and assures him that corrections have been made for the later editions. Kipling confesses that he never understood why he made the mistake originally and why he never spotted it whilst reading the proofs. The error in question refers to Kipling's mention of David in Stanza 11, line 3, which was subsequently changed to Saul in the American edition and later reprints. (The Kipling Society).
