A highly influential trilogy of espionage fiction, the Karla Trilogy became the basis for the 1979 Tinker Tailor Solider Spy tv series, as well as the 1982 Smiley's People series both starring Alec Guinness. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was later adapted into a film in 2011, directed by Tomas Alfredson and starring Gary Oldman.
