One of only 12 copies issued separately, and containing one of only 20 copies of the single leaf "Lines Written Under the Portrait of Milton" also by John Mitford. The Life is usually found prefixed to Vol.1 of Mitford's eight volume edition of Milton's works.

A few spots but a very good copy. It is inscribed in ink on the front free endleaf: "With the author's respects". F. Capper Brookes of Woodbridge, Suffolk has written his collation note, dated 10 August 1851, on the opposition pastedown. There are a number of ink and pencil annotations, including a bound in slip. Bought from Quaritch catalogue 838.
