[175 x 105 x 35 mm]. xxiv, 394 pp. Bound in contemporary marbled sheep skin, rebacked in matching calf retaining the original red morocco label lettered in gilt, spine divided into six panels by double fillets, the second panel retaining the label divided by gilt fillets, the rest in blind, plain endleaves. (Neatly rebacked, corners lightly bumped, binding firm).

Minor offsetting to the endleaves, internally very clean, overall in very good condition. A number of ownership inscriptions to the front flyleaf: 'Ann Thompson', 'Joseph Thompson 1827', 'Mary Thompson 1836', 'Margaret C Gillett 1935', 'S. Clark from Portway April 1962, after MCG's death'.

From the library of Stephen Clark of the Clark shoe family, obtained after the death of his relative Margaret Clark Gillett (1878-1962), a renowned botanist, suffragist and social reformer. Her maternal grandfather was the radical Member of Parliament John Bright (1811-1889).
