Each letter is represented by a prominent figure or two - K, for example, is Kitchener and Kipling, with accompanying verse:

Here you see before your eyeses;

Lanky sword and stumpy pen,

Doing useful things for men;

When the Empire wants a stitch in her

Send for Kipling and for Kitchener".
