(Binding firm and square, dust jacket slightly rubbed with a few closed tears but no loss, spine lightly toned).

Text block clean with bright plates illustrating the tartan designs. Small ink ownership inscription to the front fly leaf, accompanied by a loose typed insert which records "tartans shown in other books which are not covered in Robert Bain's 'The Clans & Tartans of Scotland'. Overall a handsome copy in very good condition.

Accompanying each of the tartan designs, are the crests or coat of arms, the badge, the slogan and a brief history of each of the Lowland families and Highland clans.

Sir Thomas Innes of Learney (1893-1971) succeeded his grandfather as Laird of Learney at the age of 17. He was a Scottish officer of arms who served as Lord Lyon King of Arms from 1945 to 1969.
