The Works of Ossian, The Son of Fingal, Translated from the Galic Language by James Macpherson.

Four volumes. 12mo. [143 x 85 x 85 mm]. Contemporary French bindings of tree calf (or sheep), the covers with a blind fillet border. Smooth spines divided into six panels with gilt compartments, lettered in the second on a red goatskin label, numbered in the fourth on a green goatskin label, the others with a lozenge-shaped centre and vine roll at the foot, plain endleaves, yellow edges.

Paris: printed by J. Fr. Valade. And sold by Theophilus Barrois, Bookseller, Quai des Augustins, 1783.

A fine set. With a preliminary leaf of advertisements for Barrois's publications in each volume. First published in London in 1762, this is the second Paris edition, following Valade's edition of 1779-81. ESTC locates eight copies, at the British Library, National Library of Scotland, St. Andews, Lublin, Ohio University, University of Illinois, University of North Carolina and University of Virginia.
