With The Author's Life and Character; Notes Historical, Critical, and Explanatory; Tables of Contents, and Indexes. More complete than any preceding Edition. In Thirteen Volumes. Accurately corrected by the best Editions.

13 volumes. 12mo. [175 x 102 x 355 mm]. lxvi, 297 pp; vii, [i], 231 pp; iv, 343 pp; v, [i], 390 pp; [1]f, vi, 366 pp; viii, 324 pp; vii, [i], 344 pp; viii, 391 pp; vi, 367 pp; vi, 383 pp; vi, 390 pp; vii, [i], 314 pp. Bound in contemporary calf, the spines divided into six panels by raised bands and gilt compartments, lettered in the second on a green goatskin label, numbered in the third on a red goatskin label, the others tooled with a flower and sprig, plain endleaves, red sprinkled edges. (A few joints cracked but firm, headcaps chipped, rubbed).
Edinburgh: printed for Eben. Wilson, Bookseller in Dumfries, 1768.

Teerink 97(3).

Minor spotting and browning. The imprint has been cut from the title on vol.2 (which is lettered "Swift's Letters" on the spine, while all the other volumes have "Swift's Works"). Pp. 311-12 in vol.7 has been bent over and torn at the lower corner without loss. A very good copy in a handsome contemporary binding, each volume with the large armorial bookplate of C. Morritt Esq.

Teerink identified five issues of an edition published in Edinburgh in 1768, differing principally in the imprint. Four were printed by and for Alexander Donaldson, while this issue has Ebenezer Wilson's name on the title in vols.1-10, and Donaldson's in 11-13. ESTC locates only a single copy of this issue, at the National Library of Scotland, with WorldCat adding three, at State Library of NSW, Monash and University of Toronto.
