[4]ff, x, 315, [5] pp. Newly bound by Bayntun-Riviere in full dark blue morocco, the boards tooled with a single line gilt roll, the spine divided into six panels by gilt tooled raised bands, gilt compartments, lettered in gilt in the second and third panel, dated in gilt at the foot, headcaps and edges of the boards tooled in gilt, marbled endleaves, top edge gilt, edges uncut.

Inscribed by the author's father: 'To Mrs O'Regan, In memory of one who was a friend and admirer of her husband, Oct 1922, From H. L. de C'. Henry Lawe Corry Vully de Candole (1868-1933) was Dean of Bristol from 1926 until his death.
Alexander Corry Vully de Candole, known as Alec de Candole was born in Cheltenham in January 1897. He attended Marlborough College where he was awarded a Foundation Scholarship and eventually a Senior Scholarship. In December 1915 he was elected to an open Classical Exhibition at Trinity College, Cambridge, his hope being to take Holy Orders in due course. In the following April he left school for the Army, and after training he received his Commission in the 4th Wilts Regiment and proceeded to France in April 1917. He was wounded in October and returned to England to recover. After some months on Salisbury Plain, he was attached to the Machine Gun Corps and in July returned to France. He was killed on the night of September 3rd 1918. This work, compiled and published posthumously, contains practically all of his poems, they are printed in chronological order so as to show the development of his thought.
