[237 x 150 x 80 mm]. xxxv, [i], 543 pp; 412pp. Bound in contemporary vellum over boards, smooth spines divided into five panels, lettered in the second and numbered in the fourth on brown goatskin labels, the others with a gilt trophy centre tool, plain endleaves, uncut edges. (Loss to both labels on vol.2, short split to head of lower joint on vol.1)

The sixth Muratori edition, revised, using the Comino edition of 1732 and the Marsand edition of 1819-20. A very good clean copy. With the booklabel of Carberry Tower Library and shelf-marks "EE:9". The estate, outside of Musselburgh in East Lothian, passed into the Elphinstone family in 1801. John Elphinstone, 13th Lord Elphinstone (1807-1860) served as Governor of Madras and Bombay. Sydney Buller-Fullerton-Elphinstone, 16th Lord Elphinstone, married Lady Mary Bowes-Lyon, sister of Queen Elizabeth. With the bookplate of Giorgio Fanan.
