12mo. [179 x 110 x 21 mm]. [1]f, x, 245 pp. Bound in contemporary marbled calf, the covers with a gilt pearl and star roll border. Smooth spine divided into six panels by gilt pallets and compartments, lettered in the second on a red goatskin label, the others with an urn and darts, the edges of the boards tooled with a gilt chain roll, marbled endleaves, plain edges. (Patches of insect activity at foot of covers, slightly rubbed).

Light damp-stain at head of title and front endleaves. A very good copy.

A reissue of Appleby's 1801 first edition (only found in British Library and Bodleian). Only two copies of this 1802 imprint have been located, at University of Wales and Princeton Theological. There were no further editions. It was compiled by the local schoolmaster, Benjamin Marchant of Ballast Hills. He confessed "the writing of this book has cost me many thoughts".

With the circular armorial bookplate and ink signature of the local dignitary John Scott, First Earl of Eldon, P.C., Q.C., F.R.S., F.S.A. (1751-1838), Newcastle-born Lord Chancellor.
